Dekalog
A project by the Marc Sinan Company (MS/C) for an interactive organ, electric guitar & synthesizer.
In the immersive performance “DEKALOG – Eleven Dances about Togetherness” the audience and musicians interact live with the sound of the church organ. The starting point is the Ten Commandments, but also the eleventh commandment formulated by Holocaust survivor Marian Turski during the commemoration of the 75th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz: “Thou shalt not be indifferent.” Against the background of a plural society with diverse transcultural influences, the musicians follow this maxim and, in interaction with the audience, develop a musical attempt to strengthen common values. What values unite us? How do we shape a process of unification? What does a score sound like that reflects the interaction of a group?
During the installation, the visitors use sensors to control the sound of the organ and make the church resound. In the concert, the three live musicians take up the organ sound and develop a space-filling, immersive sound experience in multiple variations with the special mixture of guitar, organ and electronics.
