ENDLESS PLEASURES – Survival

2021
  • Video 1

Even in the pandemic, there are ENDLESS PLEASURES: the dream of a love that overcomes death. But what actually happens after Orpheus has lost Eurydice forever?

In Marc Sinan’s contemporary version of the myth, love is not metaphysical – it triumphs simply through survival, in continuing after the loss. His transmedial music performance explores the highly topical question of how it’s possible to be together despite distance.

In 2019, the three-part series under the title ENDLESS PLEASURES was created as a German-Chinese collaboration. Then came Covid-19, preventing more than just the entry of the Ensemble ConTempo from Beijing. The requirement for physical distancing gets reflected on many levels in the production: the musicians perform in isolation from each other, and the lover’s death within the story also stands for the suffering felt from our removal from one another.

Marc Sinan’s score updates traditional music from Asia and Europe combining it with improvisations of the participating ensembles from China and Europe: contemporary music of hypnotic, trance-like intensity.

The Marc Sinan Company is presenting ENDLESS PLEASURES: SURVIVAL with the TRANSFORMATOR, a 360° sound system developed especially for the SPREEHALLE.

Thanks to the interactive technology developed by Johannes Scherzer and Marc Sinan, sound and image combine in new ways at every point inside the SPREEHALLE.

ENDLESS PLEASURES – SURVIVAL is supported by the Fonds Doppelpass of the Kulturstiftung des Bundes and the Kunststiftung Sachsen-Anhalt.
